Advantages of Using a Cold Frame

It took me several years to get up the nerve to purchase a cold frame.  I just didn’t realize exactly what they did nor was I comfortable trying something a little different that I had never tried before.  You see I was raised on a farm in the Deep South where you don’t need anything more than a plot of good dirt, a little fertilizer and some water to get your plants to grow pretty much year round.  Once I moved to the middle of the country, I realized just how limited you are to grow your own vegetables, herbs and flowers the way you can down south.

Since I wanted to dab my toe into extending the growing season both in the fall and spring, I chose to purchase a versatile cold frame about this time last year (late September, early October).  I have been extremely happy that I made that decision as I now have grown my beloved plants longer in the fall and started them quicker in the spring.  Because the cold frame is both easy to move and adjust, I have been able to use it in several different locations around the yard and on my patio.  I highly recommend you try it as I believe you will love yours as well.
